Do you want to improve the way you deliver presentations to your fellow students or colleagues? Perhaps you want to become a better public speaker or improve your leadership skills? Maybe you want to gain greater self-confidence? If you answered yes to any of these, Toastmasters might be just what you need.
The UTS MBT Community Toastmasters Club is for past and present MBT students (although this excludes undergraduates) as well as IT professionals with either a minimum of 5 years management experience or 10 years work experience. Membership is also open to UTS staff. We meet fortnightly (alternating between Wednesdays and Thursdays) from 6.30pm – 8.30pm at the UTS City Campus. After the meetings we head to a local bar to celebrate our achievements, socialise and network – everyone is welcome.
People join Toastmasters for many reasons including improving your public speaking skills, increasing your self-confidence and learning to think on your feet. Toastmasters is a positive and encouraging active learning environment in which you can develop and practice your public speaking skills. Each member receives a one year subscription to Toastmaster magazine and the Competent Communication and Competent Leadership manuals containing a number of practical projects to work through at your own pace. You will be provided with feedback by your peers for each project. New members are also given the option of having a mentor who will assist you in speech preparation and fulfilling meeting roles.
If you’re interested in attending a Toastmasters meeting as a guest, or if you would like to become a member of the Club, please contact Stefano Bianchini, Vice President – Membership, who will provide you with further information including a membership form and costs.
